Here in Japan my family and I are always on the lookout for Maneki Neko.  The images below showcase some of our more memorable sightings.  Please click on any image to enlarge.

Restaurant Cats

These two little cats were spotted peeking from the window of a restaurant in downtown Shizuoka. So cute!

Restaurant Cat

50 year old cat seen within an old noodle shop in downtown Shizuoka.

Sake Flask Cat

Found in the window of a sake store. Comes full of sake!

Festival Cats

Maneki Neko booth at a local temple festival. That's Emily in front of the cats doing her best Maneki Neko impersonation.

400 Year Old building

This cat was seen in the window of a 400 year old building currently housing a ceramics store.

Electric Cat

On the shelf of a very old fashioned candy store opposite the entrance to the oldest Shinto shrine in Shimizu. This particular cat doubles as a clock. Note the nice Daruma-clock sitting next to the cat.

Restaurant Sign

This restaurant is chock FULL of Maneki Neko figures. Even the sign has a beckoning kitty!

Restaurant Cat

Spotted at the entrance to a korean BBQ place in Shimizu. This Maneki Neko is actually attached to a tall chili pepper character who is the mascot for the resturant.

Newspaper Cat

Two Maneki Neko spotted in this newspaper ad. One is playing maraca while the other (near the top) dances hula. The ad is for a pachinko parlor.

Restaurant Cat

Behind bars at a restaurant in downtown Shizuoka.

Restaurant Cat

Spotted at the entrance to a basement restaurant in Shizuoka.

Ramen Cats

This threesome was seen up on a high shelf in a ramen noodle shop in Shimizu.

Huge Plush

Sitting atop a beverage case at the front of a shop in Shimizu.

Group with Daruma

Several Maneki Neko together with Daruma-san in a window in Shimizu.

Giant Wooden

This huge carved wooden Maneki Neko includes wooden coins and a wooden cowboy hat with the words "Day Trip" written on the side.

Blue Cats

Beautiful pair of blue porcelain cats seen in a shop display window.

Maneki Neko Song

This is the "Maneki Neko Song" performed on the popular Japanese children's television show Okaasan to ishho "With Mother" (note the four Maneki Neko in the lower part of the screen). This was a lucky photo as I have only seen them do this song once on this show!

Craft Kitty

This interesting cat was made by an amature potter in Shizuoka.
